  1. Very inciteful writing. Your point about the acquisition of a PhD is, in my humble and somewhat jaded opinion, true but then so are the reasons for doing them. We choose an issue that we are passionate about; something that we have a definitive idea about and how it can be better expressed, understood and acted upon and we then construct a scaffold that we hope will convince the world that we were right! The one saving grace for me is that if we are wrong, we still publish and allow the world to decide how to interpret it.
For me there are only four absolutes in this existence. First that we are born, otherwise I would not be writing this and you would not be reading it (if you are that is! LOL!) and the second is that we are all going to die. That one is a ‘bummer’ but has to be confronted – just don’t want to hurry it along! The third is that we all have to pay taxes; again, if you want the services and infrastructure they have to be paid for! Last, but not least, we will all be confronted by change. The world around us is in a continuous state of flux. It has been estimated that approximately 80% of our population would like there to be either a ‘staus quo’ or a return to ‘the good old days’. The problem is, that if one tries to stand still, the rest of the world just moves right along by and one is left standing alone, wondering what on earth happened!
You, my young friend are not one of those, and I would like to thank you for restoring my faith in humanity. Keep up the great work!
